New Dover to Calais service to start

Irish Ferries, a subsidiary of Irish Continental Group plc (ICG), has announced its new service on the Dover - Calais route has commenced operations today.

The service will be initially performed by the Isle of Inishmore with 5 sailings per day in each direction, with additional capacity planned to be introduced in the coming months.

In communicating the new service, the operator stated: “Irish Ferries is the market leader for freight and passengers between Britain and the Republic of Ireland. The new Dover - Calais route comes as part of our commitment to the movement of freight on and off the Island of Ireland to both the UK and Europe, strengthening the capacity and reliability of landbridge options for exporters and importers. Hauliers will now have one operator providing an inclusive service on the Dublin - Holyhead, Rosslare - Pembroke and Dover - Calais routes, allowing easier, cheaper, and quicker access to European markets via the Common Transit Convention.”
